Medicare Changes Nursing Home Grading System

The federal government has changed its grading system for nursing homes, and the new way will make it harder for homes to get higher grades.

Now, about one-third of homes are below standard. With the new standard, the top homes, which make up about one-third of all homes, lose one star.

The objective is to get the homes to provide better services.The new standard for assessing home changes the entire criteria. For example, the new rating system will evaluate the quality of anti-psychotic drugs given to patients.
