Being the executor of an estate can be challenging. There are a lot of things to do. You have to pay off debts and distribute money or other items to heirs.
Of course, one should consult a lawyer for help. But there are a number of online tools designed to help. One is called EstateExec.com.
A story in the New York Times compares it to TurboTax. It doesn’t offer legal advice but aims to simplify the process.
EstateExec focuses on guiding consumers, offering them an interactive way to list and track financial assets and accounts as well as individual items such as jewelry.
It also provides a timeline, with a list of tasks to be accomplished.
But the site notes that, while helpful, you will need a lawyer if the estate is at all large.
