Three Keys To Estate Planning

Thinking about estate planning can be a daunting proposition. But it becomes easier if you break it down into three parts.

According to an article on idahostatesman.com, they are: organizing your financial information; communicating your plans; and taking action.

  • You need to create an organized record that details your accounts and legal documents to that your family can easily locate them. Besides lists of financial institutions, accounts and account numbers, this could include professional contacts, the location of estate documents, insurance policies, credit cards and online accounts and passwords.
  • Talk about your plan with family. Don’t leave them in the dark. But there are differing amounts of information you will want to share with, say, young children as opposed to adult children.
  • Take action. Don’t put it off. You need a plan. Best to consult a qualified estate planning attorney.
